Join Us In July--Auburn, IN July 8th - 11th, 2021

Come join us for a weekend of exploring the historic town of Auburn, IN and DeKalb County.  Auburn is known as the "Home of the Classics" for their role in the early automotive industry and the annual Kruse Auto Auctions that attracts bidders from all over the world.

We will enjoy Friday evening at the DeKalb Outdoor Theater with The Joe O Band.  Saturday the Auburn Shifters Car Club Car Show will be at the fairgrounds.

Auburn is known for their museums... and they are open! There will be free time to visit these "Must See Museums", such as the Cord Duesenberg Auto, National Auto and Truck, Kruse's National Military History, and the Auto/Carriage Museums, to name a few.  If you are interested in Monster Trucks and up for a short drive, there is a new international Monster Truck Museum and Hall of Fame in Butler, IN.  If you enjoy historic homes/buildings, a self-guided sidewalk tour will provide a view and history of 44 structures in the historic district of the city.

So come join us for a weekend of exploring the fascinating town of Auburn and, best of all, hanging out with your Hoosier Cruiser Friends!

With Deepest Sympathy

With deepest sympathy

Harry DeCausemaker reported that Ron Krebs passed away.  He and his wife were members quite awhile
ago.  The club wishes to express their sympathy to the family.

Exploring the Delights in Charlestown.......

The rally began on Wednesday with members gathering at the Rally Master’s site. After welcoming everyone those attending were treated to “Walking Tacos”.

Thursday began with an excellent breakfast of biscuits, sausage gravy, scrambled eggs, juice, and coffee. Yum!  Then we drove to the Huber Winery and Distillery for a tour and tasting. The 7th generation of Hubers are running the fruit farm and vineyard.  They have been in business since 1843  when Simon Huber began farming in southern Indiana.

Friday included a “Clue Party” at Culberson Mansion.  Hoosier Cruisers walked through the 20,000 sq. ft. mansion looking for clues to solve who the murder was, who the victim was and what was used as a weapon.  It was a challenge and great fun.   That evening we had a hot dog super with coney sauce, chips, cole slaw, and ice cream sundaes.

Saturday we toured Schmipff’s Confectionery.  It opened its doors in 1891 by Gustav Schmipff and has continued at the same location.  We got to see them make lemon drops using some machinery from the 1900’s.  The drops were delicious.   The day ended at Cluckers where we had chicken strips, French fries, salads, and pie. After the meal a business meeting was held.

The rally ended on Sunday with devotions by Melanie Boyer and singing lead by Dane Bailey. Great way to end the rally.

Exciting May Rally Planned at Charlestown State Park

Hoosier Cruisers Rally May 12-16, 2021

Charlestown State Park Campground

We are all ready for spring which we hope is just around the corner. Our May Rally will be held at Charlestown State Park campground on May12-16, 2021. Everyone will have to make their own reservations by calling 812-256-5600 or by going online at indianastateparks@reserveamerica.com. We will be camping in the Mulberry Loop and rally masters will be on sites #121 and #122. There are a few sites left in the full hook up section and plenty of sites in 50 amp electric only section.

We will start off on Wednesday evening with a meet and greet followed by walking tacos for supper. Thursday morning your rally masters will provide breakfast of biscuits and gravy. We will spend the afternoon at Huber Winery. There are many activities going on such as farmers market, tractor rides, ice cream parlor and the Starlight Cafe. We will be able to take a tour and have a wine tasting for $15.00 per person. There are about 15 stairs to get down to the wine cellar so be aware if you feel mobility would be an issue. Supper will be on your own.

Friday we will go to the beautiful Culbertson Mansion for a Clue Party. The Culbertson Mansion was built in 1894 and was completely restored in 1995. The party will include participants searching throughout the mansion for clues to discover who did it! Unfortunately it will involve 3 floors of the mansion so it may be more than some will want to do. The cost for the party is $25.00 per person. If you don’t want to do the party due to taking the stairs you may tour the downstairs and watch the Clue Movie which will be playing for $20.00. Other optional activities in the area include the Carnegie Center for Art and History (free), Town Clock Church (free), Falls of the Ohio State Park (free). We will return to the campground for happy hour and a hot dog roast.

Saturday we will tour (free) Schimpff’s Confectionery which has been making candy for 128 years. The delightful couple who own the store will explain some of the ins and outs for candy making and how it has been done for many years. There also will be opportunities to tour the Howard Steamboat Museum ($8), the Vintage Fire Museum ($5), walk across the Ohio River on the Big Four Pedestrian Bridge (free) and shop. We will have a dinner (cost $15 per person) and business meeting on Saturday evening but details are still being worked out.

We will bid farewell after donuts and devotions on Sunday morning. The rally masters are looking forward to a fun filled weekend. We are still having to work around the covid restrictions but hopefully some of those will be lifted by May. One activity we are hoping to include is a tour of the Amazon fulfillment center but at this time they are not doing tours because of covid. If it changes we will put it into our plan. We need registrations back by 4/22/21.

Please join us as it has been long winter. If you have questions contact us. Jerry and Roberta Covington 765-748-3747 cov95@aol.com Greg and Bettie Wessel 812-341-1156 gmwessel@hotmail.com
