Send a Note to Behnkens

Many of you remember Dennis and Betty Behnken.  They haven’t been able to attend our rallies recently because they have been experiencing some health issues.  Dennis called me the other day with an update.  He said that Betty has some issues with dementia and she being the navigator they haven’t traveled any for the past 2 or 3 years.  They have sold their home but still have the barn.   They have moved into an assisted living facility in Brookville Ohio.  They still have their motorhome but they are considering selling it.

I think it would be nice for those that remember them or any that would like to, to send them a card.

Their address is:
Dennis and Betty Behnken
1 Country Lane F 206
Brookville, Ohio 45309

Great Rally in Historic Madison IN

Hoosier Cruisers gathered at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds near Madison, IN.  Coaches arrived on Thursday and after setting up members had a delicious dinner at The Pines.  All agreed that it was one of the best buffets they had eaten.

Friday was a busy day beginning with a tour of the Royer Corp.  They are known for their swizzle sticks, but they also produce many other small plastic items and sell to many large companies including Disney, Amazon, and casinos.  We were shown the process for developing a new product from design to production. Fascinating!

Then the group was treated to a tour of historic Madison on a trolley.  The driver shared many interesting facts and stories about Madison.  Walking down the streets of Madison is like stepping back in time.  The architecture has been maintained from the 1900"s and the gardens are beautiful year round.  The day ended with a meal of  "Sloppy Joe" sandwiches, chips, and cookies which had been prepared and served by Bettie Wessel and Darlene Gebhart.

The next morning the Greg Wessel and Jack Gebhart flipped pancakes until everyone was full.  Beginning with a hardy breakfast of sausages and pancakes, everyone was ready for a day of fun.
Some members shopped, others visited historic sites, while still others tried the local wineries.  The city also had a festival called, "Soup, Stew, and Brew" which added to the opportunities available during the rally.  The day ended with a carry-in dinner and a huge board game which brought about much laughter.  Winners were treated with certificates for a "candle light dinner", VIP parking,  a portable RV dishwasher, and a weeks worth of cookies.  This ended a day of fun and laughter.

Sunday was the last day of the rally which included a breakfast of donuts, juice, and coffee.  Following breakfast Sandra Ashton had devotions which focused on the hymn "Nearer My God to Thee".  It was a moving explanation of how the hymn has impacted the lives of many people.

And, luckily the rains held off and everyone was able to leave the fairgrounds for a safe trip home.

The new calendar for the club is being developed for next year's rallies and events.  Make sure that you follow the news and mark your calendars.  You won't want to miss out on next year's club activities.

Fort Wayne Fun!

Marcie & Chuck Bayman, and Steve & Judy Kincaid provided a great venue, delicious food, and exciting places to see.  The Hoosier Cruisers gathered at the Allen County Fairgrounds in Fort Wayne. It was great to renew acquaintances and swap "tall tales".

On Friday the day began with a pitch-in breakfast and as usual the food was delicious.  Next we traveled to Sweetwater which distributes music equipment around the world.  The owner began in a VW van and mixed the music of early rock-n-roll artists.

We toured the facility and were entertained by an employee who played a grand piano that cost over $74,000.  He was amazing and so was the piano. As he played it sounded as though there was a whole orchestra playing with him.

The members also participated in drum circle.  The presenter told about the various drums and where they had originated.  Then each Hoosier Cruiser played various types of drums together and what a surprise.....we really sounded pretty good.

That evening we were treated to barbecue ribs or chicken from a local restaurant.  You have heard the old expression, "finger licking good",  well that was the case.

Saturday, began with another carry-in breakfast and then the remainder of the day was spent visiting a variety of events.  Many visited the Johnny Appleseed Festival which is a huge venue for arts and crafts.  Members had the opportunity to purchase one of a kind items.  Jack Devers told members about a car show which included customized cars, classic cars, antique cars, and hotrods. There was something for everyone.

If you were unable to attend you really missed an exciting rally.  Many thanks go the the rally masters and assistant rally masters.

The Hoosier Cruisers will be meeting in Madison, IN for a great fall rally.  The gathering will take place at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, 3852 IN 256, Hanover, IN, on October 11th through the 14th.  We will have water and 30 amp electricity at the campsites.  Dumpsites are also available at the fairgrounds.  The club will have use of a large meeting area for meals, games, a movie, and fellowship.

So…….what is going to happen????  Members will arrive on Thursday and we will travel to a local restaurant for an evening meal.  Upon returning we will gather in the meeting room to catch up on what members have done this summer and will end the day with a movie.

On Friday, attendees will have an opportunity to take a factory tour.  We guarantee that you will never guess what this factory makes and you will have to attend the rally to find out.  Surprise!!!  Also members will want to take the Madison Trolley which will tour the city of Madison and share details about this historic city.
The evening meal will be provided including sloppy joe sandwiches, chips, salad, and cookies.  Hopefully the weather will cooperate and we will enjoy a campfire together.

Saturday will be a relaxing day beginning with a pancake breakfast prepared by the rally masters and assistant rally masters.  After breakfast Hoosier Cruisers will have the day to explore the city, visit wineries, and the quaint downtown shops in Madison.  You will have the freedom to enjoy a lunch at the restaurant of your choice.  The evening meal will be a carry-in with the members providing side dishes.  The meat will be provided by the club.  After supper, all will be invited to participate in “the Great Race Across the United States”.  Who knows who the winners will be????

Our Sympathy Goes to Steve and Judy Kincaid

The club recieve this note from Steve Kincaid:

Judy and I won't be attending GLAMARAMA after all, so my parking spot will be available for someone else.

Judy's mother (Barbra Knox) passed away at 93 years old while in hospital for broken hip.  It was all over in 15 minutes.  She died laughing with the nurses and had a smile on her face.

The funeral is Tuesday, the 5th, and we neither one will be in the mood to travel to Allegan on the 6th.

Steve

Greg and I want to thank all of you for kind thoughts, prayers, and cards. I am progressing well but, will not know when I will be able to bear weight until I go to the surgeon in late January.  We are looking forward to getting together with you all at the upcoming rallies this summer.

Thanks, Bettie Wessel

p.s. With an OK from the doctor, Bettie is now walking on both legs with a walker.
