HC Information following the October Rally

October Rally Attendees,

I received a text from John Saalwaechter that he and Vicki contracted COVID.  Vicki is in the Lebanon Hospital. She is on oxygen and having respiratory problems. John is at home and not experiencing the same problems. They left the rally on 10/3/20, which is 13 days ago.

You may want to take precautions if you experience symptoms associated with COVID.

We all wish Vicki and John “get well wishes” and you may want to send them a note.

Rockville Rally

The Hoosier Cruisers gathered at the Parke County Fairgrounds.  It was well attended with 22 coaches participating.   The rally began on Thursday and those attending enjoyed dinner at the Thirty-Six Saloon.  The restaurant has a rustic atmosphere and serves good food including smoked beef items.  Everyone seemed to appreciate the food and service.

Friday began with coffee and muffins which was followed with a snowman craft project which was led by Connie DeCausemaker.  The men were offered a golf outing led by Harry DeCausemaker or a "Tech Talk" held outdoors.  In the evening the club members roasted hotdogs over a campfire and also made their own smores.  Just good old fashioned camping.

Saturday began with a trip to Bridgeton Mill.  It is the oldest continually operating mill in Indiana since 1823.  It burned down in 1869, but was rebuilt in 1871.  Mike Roe, the owner, gave an excellent presentation on the history of the mill and its importance to the surrounding community.  After viewing the mill some members went next door to the Artisans building and were treated to Mr. Wagoner creating pottery pieces.  For supper Hoosier Cruisers were treated with a pulled pork dinner which had been prepared by Linda Wible and Bettie Wessel.  The day ended with a group game of Family Feud.  It must have been enjoyed because there was laughing and discussion during the entire evening. It was fun.

Sunday began with donuts from the Wheel House Donut house.  They make gourmet donuts - have you ever heard of bacon and maple donuts....well they make them.

Dane Bailey provided outstanding music and a message that was enjoyed by all. Great job Dane.

The Wibles and Wessels thank all those who attended and wish them well as we look forward to the next Hoosier Cruiser event.

Great Fun in Portland

Hoosier Cruisers who attended the September rally had a great time due to the efforts of the Boyers and Rusters.  The rally was well attended with over 20 coaches in attendance at Jay County Fairgrounds.

The rally began with a tour of the Jay County Historical Museum.  There were many exhibits and something for everyone from antique farm machinery to household items from the past.  It also houses a genealogy collection that is open to the public. Members enjoyed wandering through the museum at their own pace.

Friday afternoon the club visited an Amish oil stove factory.  They make all the parts and each stove is hand built by craftsmen.  It was interesting to see the large stamping machines which are run by compressed air stamping the needed parts.  Some of the machines were made in the early 1900's and are still going strong.

On Saturday Hoosier Cruisers visited a vineyard and tasted wine.

The rally masters and assistant rally masters provided excellent meals including a pancake breakfast, a fried chicken dinner with sides, and a picnic dinner with grilled hamburgers.  Many thanks go to their efforts for a successful rally.

Special Hoosier Cruisers Update

Fellow Hoosier Cruisers,

As you may be aware, many of the FMCA events for the coming season have been cancelled. This includes Glamarama 2020 in June and the International Convention in Lincoln, Nebraska in August 2020.

As for our Hoosier Cruiser rallies, we (the Hoosier Cruiser Executive Board) have decided not to plan anything before August 2020. Therefore, there will be no rallies in May, June, or July of 2020. Hopefully, by August the COVID-19 virus issue will be behind us. You will be notified if there is any change of plans.

We certainly hope this is short-lived as we miss all of you and are anxious to get together again.

Please stay safe and well,
Jack Gebhart
